Just a day

Just A Day 2: https://feederband.lnk.to/JustADay2020FA Despite having already appeared in the top 20 earlier in the year as a B-side, the single A-side relea...

19 years ago! For some of us, this track will conjure up hazy memories of nightclub moshpits and mass pogoing, for a few of our members it’s more likely to be a school disco smash!

It was the title that prompted me to post, as we enter the first week of ‘lockdown reloaded’, everywhere you turn you’re bombarded with opinions, usually fairly passionate, and overwhelmingly divisive.

Pick a side, double down and do your best to besmirch the other team.

But without getting into the fakenews/pseudoscience/conspiracy/sheeple/new world order blah blah blah, I thought we could take a minute.

When Feeder released the song way back in 2001, they ran a competition online asking their fans to submit videos of themselves rocking out to the song in their bedrooms, and this was pre-YouTube!

Whilst the lyrics of the song deal with loneliness, alcoholism and depression, the video brought connection, hope and unbridled joy.
I’m pretty deep into this and I honestly set out to check in and see if anyone was already feeling derailed after one day of lockdown (hence ‘just a day’).

I’m not suggesting blind optimism and false smiles for the next two weeks, but I certainly would encourage us all take hold of those things that are within our control, and give them our best shot.

It’s rare you regret getting up early to catch a sunrise,
there are plenty of missed workouts I still feel a pang of guilt over,
and whilst I may not have mastered sourdough I won’t let that derail the rest of my life.

Monday was just a day,
Tuesday will pass by just the same,
and if you’re still in the same pyjamas on Wednesday you haven’t failed anything.

But,

if you’d like to take hold of lockdown, and seek out the opportunities hidden amongst the closed doors,
there’s a whole community ready to catch you if you slip.

Catch you on t’interweb…

Your new normal

George not letting the pandemic stop the gainz train

George not letting the pandemic stop the gainz train

Plus ça changeplus c'est la même chose.”

- Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr

’The more things change, the more they stay the same.’
Here we are, the ‘new normal’.
The last few months have left many of us feeling powerless, trapped yet adrift at sea all at once.
It has been easy to lament all the things that have been taken from us, and no one should feel guilty for this grief.

But once you’ve felt the wave wash over you, try not to stay on the shore, at the mercy of the tides.

Whilst everything feels very different, if you zoom out far enough there are a lot of things that haven’t changed at all.

If anything, we’ve been given an opportunity to stop, and really reflect on what we actually need, what (and sometimes who) do we value, or value us…

But on a primal level, nothing has changed.

We are plants with opinions, we need daily air and water, nutrients and sunshine.

But we also need eachother, we need to connect, to feel part of something beyond our four walls and a window.
One of the most fundamental parts of this human experience is when we gather.
We are built to find our tribes, to connect and realise our value within those networks and the last few months has flipped this on its head.

But instead of us letting the tide overwhelm us, we can swim out past the breakwater, into unchartered waters. It’s been incredible to see so many of you leave the shore behind and learn to swim in the digital oceans of Zoom classes, online running clubs, garden/garage/kitchen/carpark workouts.
We may be apart, but we are not alone.

It has been A W E S O M E to spend time, face to face (but 6ft between those faces, at ALL TIMES).
But this is not guaranteed, so we are working on building our own ‘NEW NORMAL’.

For many of us, working out at home, but connected via satellites has been a revolution, for others, a brick wall between them and their happy place.
But as a community, we are greater than the sum of our parts.
For some of us, Zoom has been our only option even with the easing of lockdown, and we are committed to keeping you connected moving forwards. It’s allowed those who struggled to juggle work/commuting/family life to thrive.

There are a lot of things out of our control right now, so let’s make some headway on those within our grasp.
Maximise our opportunities.
If you haven’t tried an online class, dip your toe in, sometimes a few more faces can really make a difference to those who can’t physically make it to the gym.

If you struggled through lockdown, let us know, let’s support eachother to weather the storms.
As humans, we’ve been strong, fast, healthy and happy before airbikes,
and if we need to, we can do it again.

If you struggled through lockdown, let us know, let’s support eachother to weather the storms.

Outcast in the new world

Why?

To build healthier, happier humans so that the rest of their life is the best of their life.

This is why we are here.

It’s taken 10 years to articulate, but it’s always been the why.

In a time of unprecedented change and upheaval, when our whole world has been turned upside down and left like a tortoise attempting to breakdance, it actually hasn’t been that difficult to do.

Why?

Firstly because of you,

with each day that passed, each news update, every prime minister’s address, our members were unwavering. You rallied around us as coaches, flooding our emails and inboxes with reassurance, offers of help and more importantly with kindness and compassion.

You pulled together (to a safe distance no closer than 6ft with rigorous hand washing) and rolled your sleeves up to push forwards.

And for that, we will forever be indebted to you. At a time where it seemed like the storm would sink us all, our ship was more buoyant than ever.

And alongside that, it wasn’t as difficult as some may have imagined because at our core, nothing has changed,

'“build healthier, happier humans so that the rest of their life is the best of their life.”

nowhere in that does it say where we have to be to do it.

Nothing that is happening now is distracting us from what we have always been here to do.

We are not a building.

(we love Unit 12, we have poured our heart and soul into building it, but it is just a building.)

We are not the equipment.

(of course we miss your face when we tell you how many calories on the bike it is, and who doesn’t miss the knurling of the barbells between your palms, but these are just tools)

We are not the program.

(we spend hours, built upon years of discussion, testing, researching and retesting to help inform what we program, based on you, but we are not just a workout.)

Collectively,

with each and every one of you wonderful, resilient humans,

we are unapologetically

OUTCAST.

CrossFit Strongman Seminar at Outcast

strongman.png

We are extremely proud to be hosting the epic CrossFit Strongman seminar with Rob Orlando and Rhoddy Davies on Sat June 30th 2018. This is a hands on day spent learning the correct techniques to many of the strongman movements, tyre flips, yoke carries, atlas stones, logs & kegs. Also discussions on the universal accessibility of these movements and programming them into your own training/group classes.

A barbell is a tried and tested way to get stronger, but it isn't the only thing, the strongman movements are have a surprisingly low barrier to entry and introduce a truly functional and fun addition to your training.

open to all, not just coaches.
